ETHAN WONTON

On December 27, 2008, my husband and I finally caught a glimpse of our belated Christmas gift. He was gorgeous. He had a head full of dark hair (now reddish-brown), blue-grey eyes (now dark brown), ten perfect fingers, and ten perfect toes. We named him Ethan Kai.

The next months, we had frequent family visitors; one of which was Ethan's Great Aunt Laurie, who referred to our little bundle of joy as "baby wonton," because he was always swaddled up like a dumpling (a wonton is a Chinese dumpling). Following her suit, we started calling our mini-charmer our "baby wonton."

Now that he is a big brother, and walking and talking, we've forced ourselves to come to terms with the simple fact that he isn't a baby anymore, and begrudgingly upgraded him to "big brother wonton", or "Ethan Wonton".
