ABOUT ME

My name is Ellen. My last name is not Wonton. My age is my secret.

Every now and then, random people will nonchalantly ask me "What are you?", "What nationality or you?", or "Where are you from?" I usually tell them something like I am human, from America, born in New Jersey, raised in New York, and transplanted to Oregon.

I think what most of these curious folks really want to know is my ethnicity. To answer that, I'm Chinese.

A decade ago, I married my college sweetheart, whom I refer to on this blog as Husband, or Baba Wonton. We met in Spanish class, fell madly in love, and married young. Eventually, I followed him across country... from New York to Oregon.

Just after Christmas of 2008, we had our first son, Ethan. This past March of 2012, we had our second son, Lucas. We also have two dogs, whom we named after the main characters in The Lion King (Simba and Nala).

Ethan Wonton was born two weeks after I finished graduate school. After a few short stints, I decided to become a stay-at-home mom, at least for the time being. And in case you didn't know, stay-at-home mom really means full-time chauffeur, nanny, maid, and teacher.

Since my husband and my family live on opposite coasts, I started Wonton Chronicles to keep friends and families updated on our adventures.

I blog because I enjoy it. It helps me stay sane, allows me to recollect, highlight precious moments I want to remember, and reminds me that my current life is perfect.

  1. Hey Ellen: "What are you?" I've heard that question before and I'm cringing with you in solidarity. I also used to get the question: "What are you mixed with?" I would always reply: "A great big spoon!"
